Trinity river steelhead fishing, the trinity River has been giving up some solid days of steelhead fishing. The water is as clear as it gets, this is when knowing every little spot that those fish lay and being stealthy pays off big time. There are plenty of fish around but it’s easy to bump fish in the low clear water. I don’t see any rain in the forecast for the first couple weeks of February, When we do get some weather the fishing will pick up. There is a lot of fish in the willow creek area waiting for a bump in the flows and they will start charging there way up river. As of now it will be smaller pods of fish. The weather has been beautiful we are catching steelhead every day out. Best bet is from Lewiston to junction city area, fly fishing and spin fishing has been productive. Best fly’s are brown rubber legs, golden stones and a peach or tangerine color 10mm egg. Hard or soft eggs. For spin fishing guys are doing well throwing spoons in gold or silver. Or #50 hot shots or mag lips. In blk or gold will work perfect. Fishing the deeper runs/holes using a slinky to get you down or bouncing Betty with a small piece of roe will put fish in the boat. We will be fishing the trinity until the end of February. If we get a good amount of rain the trinity River might fish good in March we will see!!
